Ebay payment - how long to wait ?
I sold an item on the 22nd of the month. The 'buyer' bid with ten seconds to go (fair enough, I do it myself regularly). Naturally (I
think), I imagined that the 'buyer' would be online and able to contact me and make payment so I sent an ebay invoice within 5 minutes of
the end of the sale.
Not a dicky bird was forthcoming from the buyer for 3 days. Again, I logged onto ebay and sent an invoice.
I haven't heard a cheep from this guy over the last 6 days - no payment, no email to say "I'll be paying soon" or anything
like it.
In the meantime, I had contact with someone who wanted the item and wanted to pay straight away and I thought "f**k it, your man is a waster
anyway" and promptly sold to the other punter who was keen to buy 'right now'.
Anyway - I'll cut to the chase, today out of the blue, 6 days after the end of the auction and having completely failed to contact me in that
time, the original 'buyer' paypals me the money. I immediately refunded it and sent him an email saying that had he contacted me over the
last week (virtually) the goods would still have been for sale.
So - is it reasonable to snipe an auction then wait a week to pay (without contacting the seller at all) ?
Footnote.
I'm not the fastest in paying all of the time, but I do contact people to keep them aware of the situation if humanly possible.

It depends what you have put as your terms of sale.
I always say contact must be made within 3 days, and payment within 7 or I will re-list.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

Every auction I have won on ebay I usually pay within minutes. At the very worst I think I paid the following morning. So, in essence anyone that
takes 6 days to contact / pay deserves to miss out.

I think you went to reasonable lengths to contact the original winning bidder, so I'd say your conscience is clear.
Did you have any footnote to the effect of 'winning bidder must contact seller within 5 days etc....' to cover yourself?
What was his feedback like?
Has he left you any negative feedback since? (you can always post a response in your defence.)
I must admit, when I win an ebay auction I always contact/pay the seller very promptly (treat others as Iwould wish them treat me etc....)
Rest easy,
Andy.

Yep, if someone's online to bid in the closing seconds, I'd at least expect contact when the auction ends (if not payment). Don't
think you did anything wrong.

He may have been away and had one of those bits of software that bids for you in the last seconds. I have had this myself. The buyer usually turns up
in the end. However it would of been better if he had at least contacted you earlier.
The bad thing now is if he is feeling a bit nasty he has the ability to leave you a Negative feedback.

I think ebay terms are contact within three days following succesful auction win. I give this + 4 days to pay via paypal +7 if cheque.
ATEOTD - as stated he could leave you negative feedback as you did act rather hastily (IMO) which is understandable as you had had no contact from
him. One negative isn't a problem in the grand scheme of things... you could always leave seller response to negative feedback.

I'll gladly accept that 6 days isn't exactly a lifetime - but an email would have been fine. It was a 300 quid item I sold, so I would
have understood if he had said " can you wait a week until payday" or whatever. But that didn't happen, so I'll be living with
the consequences whether I like it or not
P.S. His refund had been done within 5 minutes of being received.

I have been in a similar position but the goon who bought my Ranjy was a waster who refused to answer any e-mails or correspondance. After a week he
left me negative feedback saying he had travelled many miles and I wanted more cash than agreed!! I was totally miffed.
I contacted Ebay and they removed his feedback. Which was nice......
Did you attempt to 'phone the chap using his contact details (supplied when you send the invoice)?

i wouldnt worry about feedback john, if he negs you just add a note explaining it. It doesnt reflect bad if you explain in a reasonable way, ie
'£300 item, no contact for 7 days, item relisted and sold'. Even if you didnt relist it, it explains the situation well.

I'm having an opposite problem - bought two items from a guy - paid immediately - he made no contact for 10 days so I left negative feedback and
started the paypal non delivery bit - he's now contacted me saying the items were despatched (Parcel2go) and has suggested I contact them but
hasn't given me a reference number.
He seems like a reasonable guy and I feel a bit guilty about kicking the process off - that said, my items (driveshafts - trying to get them elsewhere
now as I'm desparate!!) still haven't turned up!
