rightly so, how can they say the incidents are not related when the manufacturer has failed ot investigate - especially saying they have to be asked
to by the insurers which is total rubbish.

Interesing thread on pistonheads.

This comment is interesting if true:
In 8 months in a main dealer ive seen 2 cars have ETM's replaced, it is one of the least common faults on UK Volvo's, it IS ONLY an
issue in the US and Sweden where the parts are different hence why Volvo isnt commiting to anything in the UK as there is hardly any problem there to
deal with.

there was an article on watchdog a few weeks ago about volvo saloons having sticking throttles due to faulty fly by wire sensors on the pedal iirc
which could fail at any time with ono warning - several people had rung in who had been stuck on teh outside lane of a motorway and last night the 4x4
- xc90 had 4 instances of car fires whilst being driven due to electrical faults - all the cars were totally torched and thankfully the people got out
of them quick enough but volvo say the 4 fires are unrelated even though they havebn';t investigateed any of them.

can't find any details of last nights article

I watched that last night. I would say that I think Volvo are going down the route of "lets be cautious and try to avoid litigation"....
However if I was in the board room of a company that had built it's reputation on safety and learnt of 3 fires in as many months alarm bells
would certainly be ringing.
If volvo did a temporary recall (issuing customers the petrol version as a curtousy car in the meantime) while they investogate I think it would turn
a potential PR nightmare into a PR windfall. Denying there is any sort of problem can only blow up in thier faces. Even if it's true that there
is no problem mud sticks.
Who the f**K tightened this up!

It's not been unknown for Volvo lorries to sponateously combust either due to using cheaper cable. Apprently the insulation is too thin and too
brittle for it's intended purpose, and whilst fitting the cable it has been known for the insulation to split on a tight corner or two. The
'boardroom' decision was made despite being advised by the company (whom shall remain anonymous) this cable was hardly suitable for the
purpose. Needless to say most of the cab/lorry fires we hear about recently have been Volvo's.

i blame the people in charge FORD
there has been speculation about the fly by wire throttle not been affected in this country . its hard to imagine to different units in use .
watchdog are sprucing it up to give a good story , altho the fact theyre being lame about an investigation doesnt help.
one thing im sure of - the engineers will know what it is and know how to fix it - its the managers/marketing people who need to pull their fingers
out there arses .
anyhoo - its wrong wheel drive to me !!
