Nokia 7110 problem
Hello, I know that the above is a prehistoric mobile, not having a camera, movie download capability, GPS, stealth mode, ground-to-air missiles etc
but I like it, it was cheap (£17 off Ebay), no self-respecting junkie'll nick it and it fits man-size mitts like mine! However, having just got
it I can't get the ruddy ringtones to work They were fine when first got but I have had a look round the menus, turned a few bits off
'n on and it now won't ring. It vibrates (another reason I bought it) but don't ring. Anybody ever had one and had this problem/not
had one but knows a remedy (apart from slinging it out )?

That's what I thought mate, but I've checked and it's set to ring and[i/] vibrate. I've tried turning vibrate off, no dice
that way either

Try another function that makes a noise to rule out silent mode like the Alarm, that should work whatever mode its in.

Thanks for the tip. Done that, no alarm sound, just vibration. There is no symbol on the screen to indicate any kind of noise-off profile. The keypad
beeps are all working, ring volume is set to 4 out of 5. I'm waiting for someone to tell me I shouldn't have bought a 2nd-hand phone off
Ebay
The only other thing I've done is change the battery for a non-Nokia replacement li-ion, again from Ebay as I thought the supplied one was duff.
It wasn't, all of the owner reviews I've read were a tad over-optimistic on their standby times Anyway, changing batteries
wouldn't bugger the ringer, would it?

profile name's and their settings..
think you have changed in the profile name X the setting Y
sow in fact you could have disabled the sound in any profile....

Not sure if its got profiles the same as the later Nokia's (although I have a 7110 somewhere still!) but give the power button a quick press, do
you get a menu where you can select:
Silent
Pager
Loud/Outdoor
Normal
etc
If so, roller down to Normal and hit it.
Failing that, I'll have the manual somewhere (or you can download it I'm sure).

try going into the settings to adjust the ring volume.this should ring whatever settings you have..if this doesnt work its probabley the ringer..being
a locoster take the back of and there should be a small speaker looking thing on the right hand side(asyou hold it face towards you)
try adjusting the prongs out so they touch the main board..
if it does ring, but not when someone is have calling go into names should be the hot key on the right and look into caller groups because if you
marked someone as a spefic caller group and the group dosent have atone assigned it will not ring
ps i still use that phone and being an ex bench enginner i can tell you most of the current gsm networks were built and fine tuned using the 7110,
that thing will get a signal better than most phones..more so on the 900gsm (voda,o2)

Thanks muzchap, if I get really stuck I migh well me over
Geoff, thanks for the tip. I had come to the conclusion that it must be a physical problem, so I've asked a mate if I can borrow his Torx
screwdrivers as none of mine are small enough (smaller than T8 ) then we'll see. By the sound fo your description the ringer contacts
aren't soldered to a PCB, yes? If so, shouldn't be rocket science to sort. Thanks again for the replies lads.

The screws are likely to be a T6
I had the same problem with a works phone rescently the ringer must have broken.. but I had the luxury of just sending it back!

Thanks again for the advice Geoff and others. Quite right, it was a T6 Torx (chuffin' small) to get the back off, and two paired lug catches at
the top near the IR send/receive. God knows what happened to the ringer but the power pickups were two small brass springs and it looked like one had
overheated as it was mired in melted plastic. Dug some of it out and freed the spring coils, put it back together and hey presto, working ringer
Thanks again for the help gents, I can now irritate the rest of the population with my mono ringtones like everyone else does
