OT - How to paint ceramic tiles

Completely off topic but wondering if anyone has a solution that works.

Ive just bought a house that we are developing. Tiles in Bathroom have been put on extreley well but are an awful colour. Im fitting a shower so the tiles that are at a half height around the bath are going to be totally replaced and tiled to ceiling. The rest of the room however im thinking of painting the tiles.
Ive only ever done this before and didnt really pay attention to the prep - end result was awful. Has anyone used a method in a humidity area such as a bathroom that actually works??? Im planning on white so it wont be noticable against the grout. Problem is i dont want them to look painted or to peel. The house is empty so spraying with cans is an option if good quality ones can be bought. I assume i need a good etch primer but have no experience of these. Ive also read that sanding lightly to abrade the gloss surface is also an option.

Any advice greatly appreciated, including products to avoid. Worst case is ill try an area and if its no good the tiles will come off, ill have to get walls skimmed etc = cost£££.

Cheers,
darren.

Just tile over them.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I thought about that Pete, tiles at end of bath have to come off so i can fit shower pipework so there will be a step at some point (i think unless i can suss it out better). Also the walls were tiled before rad fitted. I know i can remove rad but theres so much other work to do in short space of time im trying the lazy approach first!
Do you have to abrade old tiles before tiling over them?

get yourself down to "Focus" and get some tile primer.

and while you are there, get a 10% off homemovers card.

Oh yeah - i forgot about the homemovers card. Thanks for the reminder.

I have thought of an alternative to painting - i used pine panelling in the old house (not over tiles) - like the look, hated the pine movement after painting. Might look into the MDF panelling and then just retile over the bath up to the ceiling after i fit shower.
