my van has got to go
i have a w reg transit SWB low roof 2.5d non turbo
i carry alot of weight in the old girl but after 18 months of 18 yes 18 to the gallon its time to get rid
might even get rid of my vectra as it spends most of its life sat on the drive
so boys and girls i need a van around the same size as my transit
your recommendations please

Since you ask for a recommendation, I would go for a more fuel efficient one! 
I'm very happy with my Sprinter low level Luton van, 2001 vintage and even fully loaded as my race truck and hauling a caravan, I get around
20MPG

that’s not far off a Double Decker Routemasters 13 mpg, for a SWB van that kind of mpg is appalling

I suggest you get the Transit fixed!!!
My 2.5TD Bongo bus does 35mpg on a long run or about 26mpg around town and up and down the hills to work and it's an automatic! It does about
the same pulling my car on the trailer.

Just bought two Vivaro's, first impressions are very good.
Probably be fuct and cost a fortune to repair, just after the warranty has ended mind 
Got four Transit's too, they just keep on going !

Not much to fix, the Ford 2.5D engine is a pig. It guzzles fuel and yet barely has the power to drag a transit along. Even worse they are very
reliable, which you get to put up with shocking performance and economy for a long time.
A friend of mine has one as a service vehicle for his rally car. It was so bad when loaded and pulling the rally car (only 750kg of Pug 205) that
even a small incline had you changing between 2nd and 3rd.
We had to start so early in the morning to get to some of the more distant stages on time that he put a tow bar on his supercharged MG ZT V8, which
barely notices the extra weight.

That MPG is shocking - but disagree with comment re 2.5 ford engine always being pants for MPG - try Ipswich to Bristol on £25 of fuel.....(less than
5 gallons)
The above was my mates van (lwb high roof), and had injectors changed (took 3 weeks to get them out), but afterwards was a different animal.
Mind you, only way of getting them out was making up a plate to attach all for injectors and then suspending the van off them and soaking in
penetrating oil, came out within a week....... Destroyed the slide hammer ford tool when we tried that beforehand!
Above might explain why so many engines are pants - the injectors have never been touched.....

from here to york is 114 miles according to my speedo trip jobby
£40 of diesel would get me one way with a top speed of 68mph altho if you work for the police then i was only doing 60 officer

my sprinter has averaged 20mpg over the last 40k. Thats the price you pay for lugging lots of weight about. Im just glad it can manage 95mph when
needed. Time is money!

might be worth putting injector cleaner in at v.high dossage (like empty the bottle with a couple of gallons left in the tank) - or fit a new filter
and fill it with cleaner.
ps - don't use the halfrauds brand cleaners (wynns etc) ask at a proper mf. they don't sell it to Jo public, coz they complain when it
strips the paint off their car!
