Diff oil
Davey D - 17/11/08 at 01:17 PM

Before i fit my boot cover the last thing i need to do under there is fill my diff with oil.

Do i just fill it from the large bolt hole ( think it is torx if i remember correct) and just fill it until it comes out of the filler hole?

What grade/type of oil do i need? it is a 3.18 if it makes any diff-erence

filling it till it comes out sounds right but what diff is it? and is it limited slip?

Yes but for some hilarious reason Ford say you fill it 10mm lower than the hole, so unless you have x-ray vision it is quite difficult

standard EP90 or SAE90 diff oil is what is required, I think I have the numbers right. Fill untill it comes out of the filler hole with the car on a level surface.

being stupid with all thing mechanical i did as per the Haynes, 10mm below. Bend a piece of coat hanger so there is a 10mm end on it and keep offering it up until there is oil on the end.

Probably completely wrong but so far so good.

Cheers

If you are going to use the car to it's full potential you may want to consider a 80-140 multigrade Hypoid, If the gears are used try synthetic, but not with new gears as they will not wear in properly.
