Does anyone know what cars might have a small pulley for a 6 groove belt. I need to speed up my alternator
How small is small ? The standard Mondeo one is small.
needs to be smaller than the 85mm dia one i have now.
50mm would be good
VW Beetle, take a look in my archive I made my idler out of a beetle alternator pulley.
Like I say I am sure the 2L silvertop has a small pulley.
The one I have.
48mm across the ribs and 53mm total dia with a 17mm none keyed bore.
Spin the alternator too fast and the wires from the rotor windings will break away from the connection to the slip rings --- 1.5 times crank RPM is about the norm. An alternator should be at near its normal rated output if the alternator rotor is spinning at 3,000 to 3,500 rpm.
BT is right; check the haynes manual for max alternator rpm; you will find it is a bouot 12,000.
If the Rover V8 is anything to go by, the crank/alternator pulley diamters are 2:1.
mondeo one looks good,
the pulley i have now is quite big, the max rpm on my alternator is 13,000 rpm.
any ideas where to get a mondeo one short of buying a whole alternator off ebay or something
You can have this one but it may take me a bit to get it posted.

I e-mailed an Ebay alternator refurbisher and he sent me 3 of various sizes to me for my supercharger installation for a tenner. Did the job for me...
