Red top is a vauxhall engine

ME?

I would prefer car engines. As I have a Astra F rally car, I am familiar with the c20xe engine.

In Vauxhall terms:

Blacktop is the 130bhp 2 litre as fitted to many Astras, Cavs, Vectras etc.

Redtop is the 150bhp from the Cavalier/Astra GSi and some Calibras.

Vauxhall red top - with decent exhaust, inlet and ignition you're looking close to 200bhp as standard. hence they are so popular.

Vauxhall blacktop - the engine vauxhall replaced the red top with in the mid 90s? (guessing dates). It wasn't as good and doesn't have the potential so isn't widely used.

Ford Silvertop - basically a zetec. 130bhp as standard, up to 150 with decent exhaust, inlet and ignition as standard.

Ford Blacktop - revised zetec with slightly better bits which make it more tunable. In base tube its the same as the silvertop.

(all this is gathered from reading this forum, i'm no expert but i think its approximately right).
