
I've just recently bought a second R1 carbon can, with a view to creating a more 'free flowing' option than the standard one in use at
the moment. I'm intending to use this just for those (few...!) trackdays where you can get away with the extra noise, Lydden is one that springs
to mind.
I'm pretty sure some locosters have already done this, I think it was last time at Lydden that somebody mentioned they had modified theirs in
this way.
Just wondered how they've gone about it, I've removed the two ally end caps, but it looks like you have to cut the can open somehow.
I'm happy to do this if required, but just thought I'd seek out some advice from anybody who's already done the deed.....

Iv'e done this, but you need to be able to ally weld, as the can is made of aluminium. I cut one end off, lost some of the baffles, and re welded
the can, probably went a bit too far with the baffle surgery, as it tested at 103db static.

That's strange - I'm sure the tailpipe weld on mine was rusting, which would seem to indicate that at least the endplates
are steel.
When you removed the end did you cut through the endplate, or the main outer sleeve? Did you have to remove the c/fibre cosmetic sleeve to do this?

I removed the cosmetic end pieces, slipped off the carbon sleeve, and chopped through the main body of the can. the actual end bits, might well be
stainless, possibly lockformed to the main body, TBH i can't remember as its a few years ago.

I think it depends on the age of the can. Never the less no need to weld together.
Long time since I did this, drill out the end rivits and knock off the ali covers, now grind the folded edge at both ends, you should now be able to
withdraw the inards, takes a few wacks with a hammer to get the ends off.
There is a baffle in the middle, some determined wacking will get this out.
All you need now is perforated tube and wadding to replace the guts.
The exit is tube very small, I cut this out and replaced with a 2" stainless bend from Ebay.
When you fit the ends just rivit the ali covers in place, this holds it all together.
