Fireblade rough running
LBMEFM - 28/12/08 at 12:38 PM

I have Fireblade engine which runs very roughly. Talking to Andy Bates he told me to blank off most of the air filters until I can fit a new bigger jet kit after the SVA. This I did, after cranking it over for ages started on one cylinder, then two, three then all four after several sheets of flame and backfires. It then seen to run well although it got very hot to the extent the manifold went blue. Apart from the hot running I assumed it was a problem to start as it had been standing for about six months. I tried to start it this morning same again it will reluctantly start on one cylinder and so on. Any ideas?

P.S Thanks Andy for the info, I will get back to you for the jets soon. Barry

Whip off the fuel bowls and clean out any accumulated gunge and check to ensure the floats operate correctly.

hook off the tops and check the rubber diaphams are not split.

Validate the fuel pump.

In short remove, clean and balance the carbs.

If you flood a blade engine they are very hard to start, the plugs spoil easily as well so you may want to think about investing in some new ones.

In addition to Mark, check the Float Bowl needles to ensure they are still the correct shape, and just to add emphasis to what he said; make sure everything in there is spotless!

What fuel pump are you using?

yeah i'm thinkin the same. I've raced several moto crosser's and over winter same thing can happen. Its normally where it gets clogged up. Jets get dirty. My yz250f ran really hot due to the carb being all out. A good clean and balance and it was like a new bike

Steve, I am using the fuel pump off the same bike. Thanks guys for the info, I am going up to the workshop to give it a go today. Barry

no advice for your problem as such, but for information, i run a 954 blade engine and a 'busa fuel pump & as do a lot of others.
