and need to know (cos i cant afford what they are asking!) what bearing it uses? and how the quickshifting is achieved? if i was to make my own what would i need to look out for? (critical dimensions angles etc)

Quick shifts are usually nothing more than the bottom part bellow the pivot being longer than usual so the stick travels less distance at the gear knob, prob is it then gets heavier too. Just use a suspension rose joint for the bearing and a couple of collets either side for adjustment. I’d just fabricate up a simple bracket from plate rather than all that tubes, for all the extra weight of it. Rip off price for that

do you eman above and below the joint, collets kept in place by, say, a grub screw, stopping the lever from sliding up or down through the joint?

I used the existing cradle, took the long gearlever off and used one about 6" long. Works really well throw is just the right amount.
