where to get my exhaust manifold?
blakep82 - 22/1/09 at 08:25 PM

thought about making my own. decided against it.
my exhaust has to go down the tunnel, ford escort style, so where's good to a rwd escort manifold?
I'm using a 2.0 vx ecotec, but because they're not overly common it seems, I'm happy to buy another with similar port spacing, and weld on my own flange

looking at peter lloyd rallying, seem ok, but no pictures, or much detail at all. £150 for a 16v vauxhall engine in mk1 escort manifold.

16v vauxhall to mk1/2 escort 4 branch manifold £150.00 inc VAT

but here's some others:
Escort MK1/2 1300 X Flow 2" 4 Branch Exhaust manifold £70.00 inc VAT
sportex Escort MK1/2 1600 X Flow 2" 4 Branch Exhaust manifold £70.00 inc VAT
sportex Escort MK1/2 RS2000 2" 4 Branch Exhaust manifold £75.00 inc VAT

much cheaper. since its getting cut up anyway, what does everyone think?

The port spacing on an Ecotec is the same as a Zetec - but the ports are slightly different shapes and the flange will probably be different. The only RWD Ecotec application I know of is the Omega (I've got one) and there aren't any tubular manifolds for them, sadly..

Not sure if the Ecotec flange is the same as the XE (redtop) - that might increase your scope?

Why did you decide not to make your own if you dont mind me asking?

i've already got a ecotec flange from shortrack, so would be a case of cutting the old one off and welding the right one on if it fits the chassis, should be straight forward

i decided not to make my own because i can't think in 3D i know i'd end up making a mess of it, then having to re do it anyway, like most things on this car

the exhaust has to go down the tunnel, and here's the space i've got to play with (on the right of the picture)

i know the engine's not in straight, but its very tight on space...

Its about as straight as mine atm

lol my engine mounts are decidedly 2nd hand

i was given them, and a whole load of other bits for free. then the guy showed me the racing accident they'd all been in!
