Because enough is just never enough....
Gathering info into converting to duratec from pinto, mainly because...well actually I dont know...
I need to get some idea of cost to work out if I can afford to do it.
Basically would be looking to swap out the pinto for a 2 or 2.3 duratec and looking for about 190-200bhp.
Help me build up a list and put some costs together?
Engine
Conversion bellhousing
Flywheel/clutch? what would I need?
Sump modification?
ECU - already have MSnS
Throttle bodies - got these too
Inlet manifold - weber one
Engine mounts - can make these myself
Exhaust manifold - Ideally one to exit in the same position as my pinto one... (MK Engineering?)
I have also got a nicely rebuilt HD type 9 to bolt to it...
I have no idea on the costs, so it might be beyond my budget...
Cheers,
David

Well, the inlet and exhaust are on the sme side so no mods to the body work...
Dave Colledge has dome this in an Escort so engien mounts etc exist.
Theres duratec conversion stuff, bellhousing, water rail etc advertised in CLassicFord and they featured a few conversions.
I'd be interested to see it done and how much it costs...

Right.. I uploaded this PDF I got from SBD, the filename is correct, but it appears to link to something quite german.
the less techy version then:
£500-750 for used 2.0l
£230 for bellhousing
£5 for the bolts
£550 for the manifold
£390 for a low profile sump
£50 for engine mounts
This was quoted to fit to a type 9

keith2lp on here converted his Luego from Pinto to Duratec so may be able to give you some real world figures and input. I think he was able to modify his Pinto exhaust system to suit the Duratec - maybe a new flange and some welding.
Hello David
Have a look in CairB's photo archive, havnt heard from him for a while but might be worth trying to get in contact with him.

yes definitely locost options, just felt I should post it considering I had an official quote from a motorsport company. As for the engines, you
really are lucky if you find one for 150 that has all the necessary bits. I was very close to doing this myself before changing the plan to the XE.
Also bear in mind that you may well have to modify your chassis for it to fit.
Hi
Also hydraulic clutch so all those with cable operated ones need to mod the pedal box and theres the Ford hydraulic unit £80-£116 depending on which
bell housing your using and the hydraulic unit they fit. Plus new cyl Exhaust manifold etc etc. It all ads up For the 750 Kit race cars on a Zetec it
costs about 4K to convert to Duratec Min. Mind a full spec engine to go in the Class costs 8.5K and a new gearbox to go with it costs 3K so conversion
costs dont seem quite so bad in comparison.
Yes we have left the zetec's inside
Cheers Matt
I would have estimated about 1000-1500 all-in.
