Pitted exhaust valves (zetec)
focijohn - 5/2/09 at 04:25 PM

Started lapping in my vlaves today and doing the exhaust valves after round one on the first exhaust valve its reasonably well pitted. So's the second and the third.
Is it worth replacing these or just give them a bit more?
I would try and get a piture but my dads camera has more settings than the space shuttle.

Cheers

John

MIne were the same keep going. They will disappear with coarse then fine paste.

Note that simply grinding out the pits will recess the valves, and this reduces low lift flow a surprising amount. If they are bad it's best to the the seats re-cut and valves reground.

I had a similar valve seats in an old Zetec head, had the head checked and reseated by a well known engine company, only to find that the head was cracked between two valves. I would get the head checked out before you go too much further if you havn't already.
