ive been offered 2 rover V8 engines one is a 3.5 1988 ,E range rover and the other one is from a 3.5 1990 ,H, disco i no the 88 range rover will be a leaded engine but dont no if the if the ,H plate disco is leaded or unleaded how can i tell can any one help

All Rv8's are unleaded, ali heads hardened seats by default.

if thats right then cool ive looked on autodate but dint help at all

It's prob worth getting the first three digits of the engine numbers as there are different types of 3.5, different compression ratios, later blocks were stronger (known as stiff blocks cos they had wider ribs in the v valley). There are plenty of websites on google that will decode the block number for you.

Blocks after around 77 were stiff, so anything out of a later RR or Disco will be fine in that respect.

Look on the block down by the dipstick, there is a machined flat with engine number and comp ratio stamped. You want to see 9.35.

hmmm, not sure that is correct.

All rover v8 heads are aluminium alloy so will have inserts.

But the early heads are not suitable for unleaded, these being fitted to P5B, P6, MGB V8 and early Range rover.

The heads you have a ok to use with unleaded.
