fuel tank/cell

Hi folks. What are you guys doing for fuel tanks these days? Do people still consider lly tanks fine for road use, or are people moving toward cells with foam etc in case of a crash? Just wondering, I was intending to use ally but not keen on the whole "fireball" idea much at all. Anyone done a DIY foam job?

You can fill an Ali tank fith foam still...

Ali is fine and would be my preferred choice for a tank in a seven...

Personally, I think aluminium tanks are perfectly fine for road use, provided you use some common sense when fitting them. If you think too long and hard about all the safety issues then you probably wouldn't build a kit car at all.

Yeah that has crossed my mind on a couple of occasions... I'm liking the look of the mev sonic- 7 on that basis - it has two side rail members, as far as i know they're triangulated too. If I can go a year without getting made redundant I'll finally make my mind up on one of these kits and buy one.

ali tanks aren't any more explosive than steel ones you get in cars

I was about to assume that, but we know what assumption is the mother of, so thought I'd ask! It's the position of the fuel cell in the 7 that worries me a tad.

Sod it, I'll just get myself some nomex underpants.
