What's this (circled in red)
I know VAG call it a frequency modulator (the one pictured is from an astra g) but does anyone know how it works and what exactly it does, most
modern cars seem to have one between the two clutch cylinders

I know it as a damper - at a guess it's to stop you dropping the clutch too quick(doesn't do Dual Mass Flywheels any favours).
its a damper, stops you dumping the clutch too quick by restricting the fluid flow,BL used them and they leaked after a few weeks so we took them off
and aimed them in the bin.....job done
I see what you mean but it's got hole straight through it the bore of the clutch hose so don't get how it can restrict flow really, I was told it was to prevent pedal vibrations but nobody knows for sure

Guess that would be an issue on a new Golf etc - but hardly needed on a Locost surely?!

It dampens out pedal vibrations , hence the name "damper"
If it's a damper then there will likely be a diaphragm and a pressurised chamber inside. The shape would certainly indicate something like that.
I agree, its a damper to reduce pedal vibrations back from the clutch/flywheel.
Just so everyone knows, I just split it and its just a void of fluid with 2 o rings sealed against the swaged in steel discs either side so it would
appear to be a pedal vibration damper relying on the resevoir of fluid it holds to filter them out.
Nothing special or intricate and certainly not to prevent the clutch being dropped

By the phrase "split it" - do you actually mean - Crushed it in a Vice and then Bashed the living crap out of it until it broke apart???
Just kidding

No he means a satisfying careful application of force via a variety of means until his will won out.
He also works for MI5 in Afghanistan / Morocco as needed!
