Looking for a suitable radiator for a 2 litre with standard nosecone preferably newish or even new item.....

Read of many options, Nissan Micra, VW Polo, Ford Escort etc. Seen the database..

However, in simple terms - is there a generally acknowledged "best" option, for fit, bracketry, orientation, fan, etc

I would appreciate your combined experience on what to buy/look out for

as per jame's post, bear in mind the hose size/fittings aswell. I have an old micra rad, but have seen the polo rad and personally think it is a better option. I heard from Bob i think that you can pick up a new polo rad for £40ish

Thanks Ned, VW Polo it is then - I since saw the recent correspondence and photos of the Polo Rad, I think including VAT and delivery from Eurocarparts it is approx. £60

you could save £55 in a scrap yard then!

It's a bit difficult to examine the inside of a second hand rad.
I wouldn't skimp on a rad myself, I see too many knackered engines due to restricted and blocked rads........£60 doesn't buy much for an engine thats been overheated, and surely you dont want to be one of those "unlucky"owners with a steaming car parked on the verge just outside every show you go to this summer!!!!

Have you not a local German Swedish & French auto part dealer,should be cheaper than eurocarparts.

Or a serck intertruck dealer,its the early polo model rad that most use.
I think its 83 on

I bought mine from Eurocarparts and it was only 33 quid plus the VAT. Maybe it was from a different supplier from the one they're using now?

Do your research / get your nosecone first, some Polo rads fit some don't.

I take it you realised from the pictures on my website that this dimension refers to the "core" size and that the overall dimensions are larger than this? Something like 520 x 330 x 34mm IIRC

Hells bells, the only thing I didn't do was look at your ruler on the photo (by clicking on it to blow it up) Now I do it looks even bigger, guess that must be the perspective.

I wrongly assumed since your website referred to permissible dimensions, that these meant physical dimensions to fit where intended. Of course they come straight from the company website, which also doesn't make the distinction.

Looks like an early Monday morning phone call to change to part No 88318, which I'm guessing will be small enough.

Thanks for the "observation" can I suggest you make it clear on your database that the dims are core and not overall physical dims

Sorry mate and yes I'll highlight this on the database to avoid anyone making the same mistake. Radiators are usually described in terms of core size as this is what determines cooling capacity but you wouldn't be the first not to know this. I'm sure BuyPartsBy will be able to change the order for you.
