hi, my sva is on monday and my exhaust is melting the trim around the headers. I therefore need to wrap them. I have some heat mat sheets(rated at
800deg c) has woven fibres backed in reflective stuff not the roll of tape. Will it be ok to use this to wrap around the headers with steel ties?
Cheers
Adam
Should be fine. Do your headers glow?
Dark blue 316
Just visible red 500 to 600
Dull cherry red 700 to 750
Cherry red 750 to 825
Bright cherry red 825 to 875
Brightest red 900 to 950
Orange 950 to 1000
Otherwise I've got a short bit of exhaust wrap you could grab (bit of a schlok round the M25 though)....

They shouldn't be glowing red hot under normal conditions (especially when they're outside the engine bay and exposed to lots of cooling
air). Don't forget, though, that if you smother the header in insulating wrap it'll run a little hotter.....
So I'd estimate they're running 500-600 in which case 800degC rated stuff will be fine....
Hi, its a bit of a temporary sva measure so il get somehting done properly. from short runs and running the engine on the drive the headers have only discoloured to a golden colour but during the sva i guess it will get pretty hot in that area.
quote:Yeah, sorry i should have said, thats inside the enginebay, under the wraping. Mainly around the 4-2 collectors where its all tight together.
