Hi all

I am building an MK Indy R and was always going to use an R1 engine, however I have been offered a Mitsubishi Evo 6 engine with 25k done. Has this done before and do you think it would be possible?

think you are into some major work there to get such a technologically advanced engine working....... plus you have the 4 wheel drive to deal with so finding a suitable box and adaptor may be interesting

however.... anything is possible!! if your up for a challenge.. go for it!

Nice engine. Very different to an R1 and as said it's full of clever 4WD technology. Might be tricky converting it to simple 2WD...

It can be done but I'd start with something different personally like a blown 200SX engine....

There's a few guys doing Evo 6 conversions to FTOs at the moment, and sorted out the issues with gearboxes. Might be worth having a look on www.ftooc.org for info on it. Cant remember which box they've used, but they're keeping it FWD rather than going to all the hassle of 4WD.

You'll more than likely need the loom for it too.

doesnt that engine have electronic variable valve timing?

Thought that was only in the Mivec Evo engine on the later 10 and possibly the 9 too

I'm sure it can be done, it'll be pretty bulk with the inlet manifold and exhaust, intercooler etc. I'm sure there a fairly easy way to convert to 2 wheel drive.

It's only the 9 & 10 that have MIVEC (Variable timing) but that's not a bad thing.

You can also map the ecu yourself if you look on openecu.org.

You'll have none of the fancy 4wd stuff to worry about as it's all seperate.

Personally for the cost I'd still go BEC but each to their own

why not make a 4wd indy?

I think if you are running it in anything other than it's original home you might need an aftermarket ECU, and decent one at that!

I've heard you can use the early (rwd) box. If I had the money and the chance I'd love one of these! Some people talk of over 400bhp before opening it up!
