EFI to carbs: what do i need to keep?
Miks15 - 16/4/09 at 04:35 PM

As title really. Im now going to be using GSXR600 carbs on my 1.6 BMW engine. What do i need to keep from the standard setup to get it working?

Does it need any of the sensors etc?

How will the ignition setup differ?

Thank

Mikkel

are you thinking of using megajolt for ignition?

on my engine, i've stripped everything off, only keeping water temp and oil pressure sensors.

i'm using megajolt for ignition, and i never really understood the BMW ignition system, so i don't know how it works, or if you can use it, but megajolt only needs tps, and crank position

whats megajolt?

I wasnt sure if my ignition system was being run by the ECU or if it was independant of it.

megajolt is an ignition system. uses all ford bits.

but wait, does your engine have a distributor on the front? you might be in luck

is that one of those persective shots or is that engine gonna stick out the top of the bonnet by about 2 feet

Its been dropped about 2-3 inches inches since that photo. So it should be ok

That looks like a fixed distributor so the EFI unit will be applying advance etc, common in lots of late 80's cars. You will need to supplement with some electronic wizardry like megajolt.
