When I rebuilt my Fiat TC ^&£%* years ago the only major new parts were the rings and new valve seats . I've done 700 miles now do I consider
it run in now ?
Do I change the oil and filter ? (still looks clean and yellow as new)
The carbs need setting up so will the engine be ready to take a thrash on a rolling road?
Most of the wear will occur in the first 500 miles or so. For that reason, I'd do an oil change.
I have heard a theory that if youre not building your engine for longevity but for power then its good to thrash it from the off. this beds all the
bits in a certain way but wont make the engine last 100k miles. I think this is what race cars do.
I have only heard this and cant think of a reason why it works.

It’s generally recommended as about 500miles
You can tell as the engine oil becomes free from metal dust and fragments and the engine will very noticeably produce more power. My bike (just a 125)
gained 20 mph in its top speed and became much quicker to rev. I changed the oil every 200miles as I was running it in and could easily see the oil
becoming clearer.
Don't forget the plant thrashes them to death before you buy them new so makes no odds IMO

Given that it's hauling considerably less weight than it was designed to I see no reason not to give it lots of wellie from the word go.
BTW ace driver John Day reckons fitting Pinto outer valve springs allows these engines to rev beyond 7k - just thought you might like to know that.
Oil change might be a good idea.

Nothing wrong with red diesel, last time I spotted it they were selling for 25p a litre and 50 litre barrels. For that price I'd fill it from the barrel with my coffee cup!

Oh no it was about 98-99, wish I'd stopped for some though as I couldn't find the place again.
I've heard a rumour that it's illegal but my defence would have been "it was 25p a litre, I'd be stupid not to!"
Oh and to get back on topic isn't the first service on new cars at about 500 miles?
the first on my Skoda was 18000 miles
booked into PRP in Wadinton but not untill after stoneleigh unfortunately so will need to keep accelerating hard to clear it's throat regularly
