How simple a job is it . Can i do it with the engine in place. i want to fit a modified sump in its place to increase ground clearance. A step by step guide would help.

1,drain oil
2,remove sump
3,clean gasket surfaces and inspect crank and rods whilst sump is off,
4, get sump modified
5, put on new sump with new gaskets and sealant,
6, refill oil

JOB DONE!

quite easy rich, although are you sure you dont need to modify the pickup pipe too? If not its just a case of draining off all the oil, unscrewing the retaining bolts, then remove the sump and its gasket. After that fit a NEW gasket and screw the new sump in place slowly going round and round the screws to seal the gasket properly. Refill with oil and you're away .

Too slow for the first time

thanks guys i looked in the haynes manual which seemed to suggest a far bigger job.
I will do this after the retest which is tomorrow. im just off to collect the car from having the wheel alignment and suspension settings sorted.
DVLA also inspected today so with a bit of luck i should be on the road soon.

Rich I'm not sure you'll get that starter by tomorrow, they said it could take a few days with standard parcels!

Fix the gasket to the new sump with some Hermetite on both sides before you offer it up. I think I had to remove the plate from the gearbox bell housing to get at a couple of the bolts.

It becomes more awkward to refit if the extra capacity is welded on the side, if you can get the type of sump that has the extra capacity forward none of the sump bolts are awkward to get at.
