Does it matter which way up they go?

I have installed my new one with the hoses at the bottom. I don't think I can get it installed so the hoses come in to the top. (Without having the hoses come out the side of the nose cone!)

Am I likely to get air trapped in there?

The ZZR has a two stage oil pump, 1st stage takes oil returning from the block, pressures it up, and runs it out to the cooler, which returns to the other side of the sump. Then there is a pickup from there that re-pressurizes the oil, runs it through the filter and into the block.

Can't help but feel there will be air trapped under it but I suppose with time the oil circulating through the cooler will slowly remove the air from the cooler. Wonder how long that takes though....

You will get air trapped. If possible, demount the cooler (with pipes still attached) and turn it upside down to fill it. It's better to have the cooler vertical and always try to fill the whole system, by whatever means available, before you start the engine.
