
Ive only had the car on the road a few days and already I am thinking of engine upgrade.
I am drawn to either a 2.0l duratec or a 2.5 V6 ST24. am I mad?
Any other suggestions that will easily transplant
If the size of your avatar is anything to go by, I should think a Viper V10 or a Merlin V12 would be nearer the mark.

What have you got atm? I would suggest a V8 as you clearly have the room. Maybe a 3.9 RV8?
Rather depends what you are upgrading from.
Beside's the "will it fit" question (duratec should, don't know about the V6) you have to worry about what gearbox to use. If
you have a type 9 then the duratec will fit with a bell housing - I'm guessing the V6 shares bolt pattern with the I4 duratec but you'd need
to check). V6 might be a bit much for a type 9 (they put out an easy 200bhp when all the cats are removed).
If you have an MT-75 I don't know - the V6 engines fit onto an MTX-75 (transverse box) so you might be lucky - but the conversion should be more
popular if it were that easy.
Then there's the ECU issue. Lots of horror stories about people who've tried and failed to use the ford ECU, so safest to factor in £500
plus minimum to get sparks and fuel sorted.
If you're not running fuel injection currently you'll need a return to the tank and probably a swirl pot to keep things happy.
Zetec or Vaux XE (with a bellhousing) are well tried routes, Rover V8 is another possible.

p.s. don't go BEC, though on your car I don't think even the most ardent BEC fan would suggest it.

from your pictures, i deduced you are running a 2.0 injection engine at the moment, im guessing pinto?
i would recommend enjoying the summer (when it comes) first and then think about your engine upgrade in the winter

I think a Triumph TR7 box will fit the V6 Duratec, or something like that. I was interested in this engine for my project but needed a transaxle so
didn't pay much attention to other potential gearboxes.
I think a user called Grazzledazzle has fitted one so maybe give him a U2U?
Also Clairetoo has fitted the probe version of the V6 engine too. But that is a different engine and will mate up a mazda gearbox. It is smaller and
lighter tho.
EDIT have had a quick look and can't find a mention of any Triumph Gearbox being suitable at all so am clearly talking rubbish.

Neither are 'easy' transplants, but both are possible.
The main thing is mating up a gearbox, everything else you can deal with fairly easily

is your avatar still a little on the large side?
the duratec v6 is fitted inline in the jaguar S type base model v6 with a manual from the factory, the boxes are on ebay so thats a nice easy option, and it you use the 3.0 v6 duratec out of the jag they have 241bhp and are the same engine as the st220 but more powerful, i looked into using them before, does it show!!!!
Stick to a Ford 4 cylinder ------ a 2 litre Silver top using the rover 2 litre inlet manifold will give you a pretty big boost in power
