the trust bearing squeals when i pull off and it would appear that it is not sliding back and dissingaging untill the revs build or i pull away sharply.

do you think that the bearing needs lubricating?

if so do you think i can add grease through the side of the bell housing, as i do not want to remove the gearbox and bell housing.

It may be squealing cuz it's seized and trying to weld itself to the clutch - I had that on an old Talbot van , and it was nearly worn through the clutch cover before I got round to fixing it

Only one way to check.....................

You can't possibly get grease into the release bearing without physically removing it from the bellhousing, and even then you might find it difficult if it is a sealed bearing (very likely).

If you just plaster the general area in grease it will a) mix with clutch dust and jam everything up b) possibly get onto the friction plate and make the clutch slip.

A squeal just as you lift you foot of the clutch is not an uncommon problem (wifes Octavia does it), but if the clutch is working I'd live with it or if it was really bad then replace the bearing.

at the moment the clutch works fine and ive only go 1500 miles on the whole thing, but it continues to squeal as i don't think it is sliding back properly. i was hoping to get the summer over with and remove the engine and box once the car is SORN in october (as it is definatley an all out Job).

once on the move it does not squeal but that may change.

i've just spent 2 months off the road and i'm very reluctant to spend the summer with the thing in bits again.
