Just had a thought as to why my pinto's running rough.
Is a 2 litre cam belt the same size as a 1.6 ?

I thought a 1.6 belt was 1 or two teeth shorter but not 100% sure.

The 165 engine uses the same cam belt
as the 205 engine but the early 1600
and 2 litre have a different belt.

Erm...... cam belt length should not cause problems.
Its only the drive gear and cam gear size that dictates rotational variance, the belt only delivers the drive from crank to cam, the tensioner compensates for different lengths of belt (within certain tolerances), if you skim the head it would retard or advance cam timing a bit.
most likely you could be a tooth out when you fitted the cam belt, no big deal on the 2.0L pinto (valves wont contact piston) but makes a difference on the running.
Check cam timing and move cam sprocket back or forward a tooth.

Might be worth investing in a vernier pulley so you can dial the cam in, regardless of the belt used.

It is about a tooth out, I was assured a 1.6 cam belt was the same size as a 2.0, I just thought I had done something wrong.
Is it a 2.0 belt you have Rich, not a 205 block by the way.
