Remember the Top Gear show when they tested super cars power on a rolling road?
My pinto 2.0i has fairly good compressions, a moderately worn cam and emissions of less than 100 ppm at mot time, and 120k on the clock.
Today I went to overtake a Peugeot 106 Gti on the local bypass belonging to a friends son, unmodified. I couldn't do it, he floored it and we
covered 2 miles wing to wing until he bottled it at a speed at which I will not disclose.
The published 0-60 time of the GTi is 8.5 which is not good for a locost, how many horses have I lost, and how can I get them back?
I'm guessing your Pinto originally had somewhere between 95 and 110 horses under the bonnet.
If you've lost 1 a year since the engine was built.........
or 1 horse every 1,000 miles.......

ohh and gti are alot quicker to 60 than they are stated, low 7 seconds if it makes you feel any better

What diff ratio are you running and what revs did you take it to?
I know the cam is a little worn, the timing is set to leaded spec (I use shell vmax), I have a 3.75 diff with 185 60 13's which is about the same as the sierra 3.93 with 185 65 14 set up. i should really trounce a 106 GTi?

you would be surprised it not only about the horses from a standing start brute force and ignborance should excell but when rolling especially affter the 70mph mark the aerodynamics really do kick in. Brother in law has 165 bhp and could only just keep in front of a corsa with a 2 litre red top in it. After 70mph the humble locost changes into a flying brick
great excuse to buy new engine!
or a peugot 106 LOL
My car has about 240 bhp and buckets of torque, it will out run "almost" any tin top to 60 but then the advantage becomes less as the speed
increases due to a CD of between 75 to 80, whereas nearly all production cars these days are below 30. Its all in the airodynamics. Cheers Ray
PS would be really pissed if a 106 could out pace me though,
