hows this bike carb angle?

as you can see, i can't angle them any further due to that chassis bar (which i won't be cutting out before anyone suggests it )

it won't be a problem though will it?
i've seen bke carbs on the bogg bros site showing them being used as downdraught carbs.

in the final version of this manifold, i plan to have the carbs about an inch or 2 closer to the engine. where the silicone hose starts actually. what would that do for performance and torque etc? in fact you can see on 3 of the tubes, a pencil line where i was going to cut the tubes

Cut the inlet runners and move them in, looks like you would get a bit more angle there.

Angle looks okay but I'm not sure re space for an air filter... Are you planning a plenum of individual socks?!?!?!

steve, the problem with any more angle to them is, if i move them closer, that tube then interferes with the filter

i know ideally on a bike theres more of an angle to them, but what would happen here? would the bowls just fill up less or something

as for filters, anything that will fit really... probably individual socks. if thats going to be difficult, then i'll maybe look towards an airbox/plenum type thing. there's not really much more i can do about space...

remember the carbs will be a fair bit closer to the engine when the final version is done. that one is really more of a model for someone else to copy and make a proper one lol.

That's because some bike carbs are effectively downdraft designs. That doesn't mean you can use a sidedraft one and turn it through 90 degrees though!

ah, i just thought they were able to handle a wider range in angles, for wheelies and stuff.

mine are zx9r if it makes any odds then

Does the angle not affect the fuelling? I thought I'd heard somewhere that bike carbs used a method whereby if they titled above/below a certain angle (depending on how you look at it) the fuelling cut? Or is that pump-based?

Or, am I really just making all this up? It is rather hot outside, the heat might have affected me....

My ZX6R carbs are completely horizontal so not angled at all.
They work perfectly. I recently did a track day and had no fuelling problems at all.

I actually made a manifold to fit them at the correct angle and there was no difference when driving the car so I went back to my original design.

In general the longer the distance between valve and butterfly the more torque you get.

Don't use filter socks, they don't flow as well as a proper filter, and tend to get sucked through the engine at some point which does it no good at all.

Best to fabricate a plenum like clairtoo (or buy one from triton) or use a sausage filter if you have the room (looks like you will if you lop an inch off the manifold).


Angle question appear to have been answered, but for confirmation look at the angle they are mounted on the bike donor - that's got to work properly.
