where would be the best place to fit an oil temp sensor on a pinto? i am running oil cooler, and oil pressure sensor.
Alex,
I'd have thought three options:
1. In the sump;
2. In a flowing oil gallery if you can get at one;
3. In the oil cooler line if it's full flow.
What are the two plugs low down towards the back on the offside of the block? I had wondered if they were anything to do with the oil but seem a long
way from the pump.
John.
I used an TOPOT remote oil pressure & oil temp sender unit t-piece kit from LMA Performance ( Bedford), it fits straight into the block.
1/4 NPT x 18Tpi
I also run an oil cooler.
Mike
Where fitted? In the original oil pressure switch port?

I drilled and tapped an oil gallery plug to accept the sensor. Dont know if its the baest place but it serves as a comparitor (ie i know what it runs at most of the time so get an idea when its hot).
Some oil cooler take off adapter plates have a blank plug for a sensor take off, sadly mine didnt have one .

If you fit the temp sensor in a non-flowing T-piece you won't get a true reading, surely.
John.
I'd have said the sump, but whereas an oil gallery fitment might not show the true temp, it would be useful to show "abnormalities" (as
per DarrenW)as heat soak from the block may affect the readings.
Virtually all OE fitments are in the sump - probably for a reason..
use a t peace 5quid,i got one for my turbo oil feed
