Trouble selecting geaers type 9 box.
Ian D - 15/6/09 at 08:32 PM

With my type 9 geatbox connected to a zetec, first could sometimes be difficult to select when stationary. Im now getting problems with selecting second at standstill as well. The problem seems to get worse the longer the car has been running and at the end yesterday changing down was difficult.

Does anyone have any ideas of what and how I could investigate.

The clutch is new and has done less than 2500 miles. Im not getting an clutch slip either.

Thanks

Ian

Did you fit a nose bearing in the crank, or was the nose brg OK?

Sounds like you have the opposite of clutch slip, its not fully disengaging

I fitted the bearing as suggested.

Ill look at the disengament. One think the car does not creep when the c;utch is pressed and the car is in gear.

Thanks

Can you engage reverse with the engine running? if so it's unlikely to be the clutch dragging. Have you used the correct gear oil as that will cause your symptoms if you haven't?

if the oil's too low, can that cause the same problems?
just wondering coz i've got something similar on my BMW, i've suspected the gearbox has been making a funny noise for a while.

Just to check the simple things first are you getting enough travel on the clutch actuation? When hotter everything will become a little more lose and so if you were marginal on changing gears it will become harder. If its a new install then maybe its settled a little and needs adjusting.
