Hi all,
I have a pinto engine running on Twin weber 45's, it has been set up on the rollers by HT racing Twice this year already and now again it seems
to be running far too rich.
any ideas why it would have changed?? and what can i do to sort it out??
I can see it putting out black smoke when i gun it....
hope someone can help.
thanks
joe
have you checked the fuel pressure? if its too high the engine will run very rich
what colour are the spark plug tips when you remove them, ?
fule pressure was checked when set up on rollers and was perfect, tad over 2.5psi i think.
And plugs are coming out black and sooty.....
Sticky choke mechanism??
if ht have set up the carbs its not that, and if the pressure is 2.5,
then like benb says it must have somting to do with the choke,i would take the choke cable out and not use a choke atall,i have not had webers but the
people i know dont use the choke, thay stab the throttle 3 times and then start,
if its not that, then i would look again at the fuel pressure maybe get a regulator

How much warmer is the weather now than when the carbs were set up. Very hot weather will effect the fuel air ratio, hot weather less dense therefore less fuel required.
choke is not connected, but one does seem to leak some sort of oil out down the inlet...would this mean anything??
And yes it is warmer but i dont think it would make this much of a difference.
Prob with choke does sounds possible, is it poss to tighten the two srews holding the cover plate for the choke levers too much??
this is where the leak is so i tightened them a bit but it still leaks out.
Also, should oil or something come out the two holes on the front edge above the left hand trumpets???
cheers agian
The cold start mechanism on DCOEs should be connected to a cable and should get regular exercise --- even if not used for starting the car.
They work by litle piston vales which tend to forced upwards by even a mild backfire and because they are prone to sticking can stick open slightly.
so do you think that they may be stuck open slightly??
how can i fix this?? i service i guess which will mean another set up.....
thanks again
joe
