I'd try some of this

Frost alternative

if it's leaking at a gasket rather than due to pin-holes....

Hellfire - 7/7/09 at 05:15 PM

If it's leaking at the gasket and the gasket isn't damaged, chances are the sump may be slightly warped. Particularly if it's been modified. Get a largish piece of glass and check it. If the gasket face is slightly warped, get some grinding paste and use the glass to work on and grind it flat.

Now remember nice figure of eight motion and rotate it through 90 degrees every 30 seconds or so.

thanks everyone.
I think it's leaking from the weld.
Will try the putty first, otherwise sump off.
