Spigot bearing help?
Jasongray5 - 8/7/09 at 09:00 PM

I was wondering if there was a tutorial avaidable for changing a spigot bearing in a zetec anywhere?
Or if anyone had any tips/advice?
Going to give it a shot tomorow morning if my engine hoist (read tractor) will start.

You don't need a tractor to pull it out, just a nice snug piece of rod, some grease and a hammer..

LOL! Its just to lift the engine up off the ground. Snug peice of rod what now?

No worries guys, just discovered why i couldnt find it in a search, i was searching for a USER called "spigot bearing removal"

29 hours of work done, only 9 remain...

If the Zetec spigot brg is anything like the Pinto you'll need a Dremel. (found out the hard way!)
I tried the hydraulic method and it didn't budge

YOu should be able to remove it with hydraulics, your rod was aboviously not snug enough

how can the rod be snug enough - unless it has cut outs for the needle rollers.

I tried this and all that happened was I got the drift stuck in the bearing, that for a moment or nine looked like I was not gonna get out - search my post.

I used a dremel grinding stone to cut through the race enough to weaken it and then collapse it with a chisel.

If your Zetec is fresh out of a donor car then it probably won't have a spigot bearing fitted, easy to fit a new one.

thay have always "hydraulic-ed" out for me, but you do have to "surprise" the rod with a very big hammer hit very hard!

You do tend to have to be rather brutal with it...I usually end up not bothering with the hydraulic method and resort to sheer violence (chisel)...

I read somewhere that only the ST170 Zetec has a spigot bearing as standard??
