I wonder if any of our V8 guys out there could give me some advice.
i have a standard rover 3.5 with su carbs but splashed out and bought an offenhauser manifold and weber carbs to fit to improve clearance.
a friend is going to fit this for me but i just wanted to ask what else i needed to buy, ie upgraded fuel pump etc?
cheers
paul
When I did this mod many (20) years ago didn't change anything in the fuel delivery side. It worked fine as is.
to be honest, I'd be surprised if you need to change fuel pump.
most, if not all carbs, have a float chamber to collect petrol that utilises a flaot and needle valve to keep the petrol at a specified lever. It is
aginst this the pump is working against - fit a more powerful pump i.e. delivers fuel at bigger psi you would have the chamber flood so would need a
pressure regulator.
Go with it as is and see how it runs.
You may find the engine drinks more fuel so you may need a larger capacity fuel pupm, same caveat apply for pressure as above.
You might find that you need to buy a new thermostat housing with a bypass for the new manifold (it usually comes without one). You will also have to
alter the breather hoses.
Depending on the carb(s) you may need new linkage.
thanks for that.
sounds like i might just get away with it!
that would make a change.
