front pulley and flywheel
lotusmadandy - 10/7/09 at 07:03 PM

Now then ladies and gents,

I am building an 1800 zetec to go in my mk but am missing a few parts.I have got the chance of the steel sump and pick up pipe from a 1.8 cvh sierra but am also missing the flywheel from the zetec.the flywheel from the cvh will fit on the zetec but does not have the triggers on the back.
Can i use the front pulley from the cvh on the zetec and make a bracket for the pick up, is it a straight swap or am i barking up the wrong tree.

many thanks,

Andy

I pretty much did this - I used the CVH flywheel as I had a new clutch, and because it is a couple of kilos lighter than a 1.8 Zetec one.

I took the CVH front trigger wheel off the cvh pulley and welded it onto the Zetec pulley, making up a bracket to carry the tdc sensor.

I works really well and revs very quickly with the light flywheel.

I'm fairly sure the cvh pulley will also fit straight on if you remove the lower plastic cambelt surround, though it changes the position of the alternator / water pump belt run.

Also, in this months edition of PPC they drilled a 36:1 zetec flywheel trigger pattern onto a Xflow flywheel. I should think the same could be done with the CVH flywheel.

Cheers for the reply Stu,

I guess i am going to buy a flywheel and front pulley from a cvh then.
How did you centralise the trigger wheel on the pulley and did it weld on ok?

I centralised it by putting a bolt through the middle and spinning it until I was happy it was centred. I welded several 1" welds all round and it seems to be fine. The Zetec pulley has no rubber in it so it is easy to weld.
