Mocal oil cooler - should I wash it out first?
Gergely - 20/7/09 at 10:39 PM

Hi, we have just fitted a brand new Mocal 16 row oil cooler on the R1 engine. The oil cooler replaces the bike's original water/oil cooler, so is after the oil filter in the oil flow. So I am wondering. Should we rinse or wash the oil cooler before filling up the system with oil? Or blow compressed air through it to clean the internals? What do you reckon?
Thanks,
Gergely

if it is new from a shop, then it shouldnt need cleaning, but swilling it out with a little petrol, then allowing to dry wont cause any problems

I would definitely blow it out with the air gun. who knows what might be lurking in there?

Swill it just to make sure there's nothing nasty in there, then fill it with oil the best you can - will help with the first start...

As above, clean it first or don't complain if something later blocks the oilways

Cheers all! I will give it a good wash then!
