Thinking of going to bike carbs, looking on ebay there are quite a few sets of carbs cheap, how do I know which ones will work on a 1600 pinto? there are a couple of sets from 600 Hondas, big enough? and from an R1. Then of course theres a manifold.............
I've got ZX6R carbs on a 2.0 Zetec so 600cc carbs should be fine on a 1.6 pinto.
If you can weld manifolds are easy enough to make.

What he said above
Have a look in my archives under zx9r + manifold

You could also look at my web pages under "bike carburettors" - click on the [www] button below.
hi, a set of cbr600 bike carbs are good for a 1.6 pinto, i have a set jeeted to 1.5mm main jets size on a home made manifold, and all is well so
far.

think most 600cc ones should be ok ive used ZX6r, but believe others have also used CBR, FZR etc, one thing to consider is whether you are considering going megajolt for ignition at any time if so get carbs with a TPS also depending on your engine fitting whether you need to angle carbs to avoid top chassis rail for filter or not. if not may be able to use non sports bike carbs which are mounted more vertical and generally cheaper. be good to see what othes have fitted to a pinto
I usually step in here to point out the Factory manual for CBR600 carbs
We have CBR600 carbs on a 1.8 Zetec and they're well up to the job
I have a set of zzr 1100 carbs on a home made manifold on my pinto. The jets are 1.6mm and have been on both my 1600 and then my 2 litre with no
problems.
The whole lot cost £10.50p to make and fit including the carbs

The biggest advantage of carbs from 600cc bikes is that they're FAR cheaper than those from 750s and 1000s!
Hi,
I have just fitted a set of 1200 Bandit carbs to a home made manifold, the main jets are drilled out to 1.5mm which I think is too small.
I used to have R1 carbs on the engine 2.0Ltr DOHC Ford...(yes the 8 valve) which were drilled out to 1.8 following an article I read about the carbs
being fitted to a 2.0 Ltr vauxhall engine. These were over fuelling and the exhaust did smell very rich.
Since I have fitted the Bandit carbs I am more than happy with the way the car runs on tickover and the way it performs on the road.
I am about to do a trip around Europe 3211 miles so we will see how it performs during this trip.
Regards
Bob
