Hi guys.
I am having a problem with my Tiger Avon Zetec engine starting.
Well here it goes. When I start the engine it wil turn slow, almost to stop and then will spin fast and start up. The engine idles and goes fine after
the start up. Now if it had distributor I would say that was far advance and then check my timing. But on my 2.0l Zetec is distributorless and is
running twin 45 Weber Carburettors and Weber Alpha ECU.
Now I am not familiar with the Alpha ECU so I have no idea if there is any adjustmends I can make to the ignition timing? I just purchase the car and
I am VERY pleased with it. I had no paperork for the Alfa ECU so I am after some expert advice.
Thanks in advance.
I had similar problems recently. I backed off the cranking ignition advance and hey presto.
Not sure how the weber alpha works, i thought they were all pre-mapped and untouchable. I'm probably wrong though.
Don't know anything about zetec's but if it was one of my vehicles I would suspect an engine/battery/chassis earth problem.

Yes soounds very much like too much initial/static advance
ISTR the the Weber Alpha system setup software was for Weber Alpha fitting agents use only ---- closed shop.
Things might have changed.
Nope its a dealer only adjustmant. Have a look on webcons web site.
Hi there. If your engine has a 36-1 timing wheel on the crank pulley might it be possible to temporarily move the sensor so as to retard the ignition
a bit? If the poor starting problem goes away then hey, presto, you,ve found your culprit.
If it has a sensor pointing at the back of the flywheel then I'm not sure that the same method is do-able.

Any help ?
Thanks everyone.
mad-butcher: I am sure is timing problem but I will def check the wirring. Thanks.
SPYDER: Good idea mate.....I will have a look later on. Hope will be as simple as that? Thanks.
grazzledazzle: There is no distributor so no adjustment can be made. I will try the links above and see if there is a map maybe to download to alfa
unit? Thanks.
britishtrident: Then I am shafted really. I may have to look for a diferend system to fit? Any advice?
big_wasa: Thanks mate Il give them a go later on.
