... my exhaust 'just' touches my geargox?

i think it will anyway. exhaust arrived today, its big! must be 3" diameter, all stainless steel. the cylinder head plate needs changing, so i can't get it up against the cylinder head just yet. it might be better, it might be worse lol

I can't see it being too much of an issue mechanically as the engine/box/exhaust should all move together anyway.

Heat would be a concern though, gearboxes get pretty warm on their own without assistance from a scorching ehaust manifold.

can you make a bracket mounted to the gearbox that holds the exhaust pipe? maybe wrap some thermal blanket round the pipe too?

i was thinking about the heat mostly. the whole think will need to be wrapped in exhaust heat wrap stuff anyway, it would cushion any vibration a bit more. should reduce the heat.

exhaust is 2nd hand, was only £60 so well pleased with it, but i'm using a type 9 instead of the rocket box.

maybe something to look at later, but what about gearbox oil coolers? are they worth looking into?

looking again, it might be ok... i forgot i still need to put the gearbox mount bolt in. the gearbox needs to move away from the exhaust a little (about 1/2" or so?) so i might be lucky. i'll get a photo from underneath when i get a weekend, whenever that is...

Problem with a manual gearbox cooler would be a lack off an oil pump to circulate the oil...

Its fine an autobox (mine has an aftermarket one) but not on a manual. I don’t think an exhaust would really pass on that much heat to the gearbox, especially if you wrapped the pipe.

An auto generates a lot more heat than a manual, mainly due to the Tq convertor.
I've fitted a 13-row cooler to mine and it's made a world of difference!
To fit one on a manual box would need drilling holes and using an electric pump. Suppose you might be able to use a PS pump - although I think they are fairly high pressure and low-ish flow; I guess you would need low pressure low-to-medium flow.

You can space out the exaust manifold from the head with a thick steel plate cut out using the head or the existing manifold as a template and use 2 gaskets.
If you have big enough primary pipes you could make up the spacer plate anti reversion stubs as defined by David Visards book..

You could get the offending pipe heated and bent or cut and re welded to clear
