r u allowed to use engine from written off vehicles?

can someone explain any disadvantages to this?

i dont see any reason why not.

depends on the condition of the right off. i wouldnt want an engine from a car with front end damage.

if its got a engine number, its traceable, possibly get a receipt off the scrappy too to cover yourself?

I dont see why not.... that big breaking company take "non return to road" writeoffs and break for parts.... They are just not alowed to sell the chassis or "ID"....

if you can see the car before the engines removed then all the better. then you know if the manifolds auxiliaries or sump have taken a hit.
But generally i don't see a problem in it.

Where do you think most bec's come from?

Unless it's a Cat A in which case the whole lot has to be scrapped, and technically nowt should be sold from it although I have no doubt they usually do get stripped first.

What you want is a mid engined car that has been driven forwards into a tree or a front engined car that has spun out into the tree. Get the engine from the undamaged end. A car that has been crushed between lorry and central reservation armco would also be good. Or fallen tree damage. I'd avoid flood damage though.

My ST engine came from a car that had hit a tree/post at the B pillar bending it like a narner...

Nothing wrong with using engines from rite-offs imo. If they not damaged from a huge front end smash then bobs your dads brother.
