type 9 gearbox - difficult to change gear
gregf27 - 9/8/09 at 02:38 PM

Been out watching the Hill climbing at Loton park today - great fun!!
on the way back home , after stopping for some more fuel, when I pulled out from the garage, getting it into gear was really difficult, managed it in the end, but summat aint right.
do you think the clutch cable may have stretched a bit , and need tightening???
makes quite a "clunk" when you put it into reverse too.
other than that the "running in" of the red top engine is doing REALLY well!!!
Pinto to Redtop - well worth it!!!!!!!

do you have an handle extension fitted?

rusty nuts - 9/8/09 at 04:19 PM

Incorrect gear oil in a type 9 will cause similar problems as will dragging/incorrectly adjusted clutch. Another possible culprit is the spigot bearing .

I had the exact same problem with
my type 9 a few weeks ago.Turned out
the adjuster lock nuts had come loose and wound off.
