Just went out to check the oil level, pulled out the dip stick and the end was missing it must be in the sump
do i now have to take the sump off to fish it out?
advice please please please.
or can it wait till the winter lay up?

I'd be removing the sump by now, You don't want that to pick up in your crank or you'll be in a whole world of hurt...
just one thing after another at the moment, had a good blast yesterday, and today its in bits
problem is im busy for the next few weekends as my wife is in hospital for an operation and will take 3 months to recuperate.
thanks for that
it's what i thought

i'm guessing it a pinto you have, i recon the metal strip couldnt get round and into the sump you should beable to fish it out with maybe a
magnet or pliers depending on how far its gone in and how good a fit it is in the pipe.
Goodluck!
drain the oil,you may be luckyand it comes out, failing that fish for it with an extending magnet through the drain hole.
yes its a pinto, and the end flat piece of metal from the springie section to the tip is gone
. might try the drain down approach first as it realy
needs and oil change.
may be lucky then

Good point re removing the oil and hoping it comes out in it... you'll need to remove the oil if you have to take the sump off anyway so worth having a good route round the old oil to see if it's in it....
just a thought, would you have any joy removing the dipstick tube to see if it is poking out of there.
I think its a contagious illness. I droped a part in my bellhousing yesterday and had to take the engine out to remove it today
Pull the dip stick tube out and you will get it hopefully
no the dipstick tube comes out easily and it is not down there, it was the first thing i thought of.
will try the oil first and than drop the sump.

If a quick fish around after an oil change doesn't find it, fit a magnetic sump plug and forget about it. I can't think of any situation where it could leave the oil in the bottom of the sump to find its way to do any harm. It's not as if the crank actually touches the oil that's in the sump unless you overfill it!!
i would leave it
quite heavy, wont go thru the strainer, and as above will prob end up on the end of the magnet
