hi, how do people fair with filter that poke out of the bonnet in wet weather?

ive got a pipercross 600 series filter on mine and wandered if there is any issues if it gets wet?

Engines can suck a quite moderate % water before they start complaining. Infact on highly tuned engines it can help prevent detonation

If it's pissing it down that hard the lack of grip and / or inability to see where you're heading are probably more of a concern.

My worry would be water pooling in a downdraught carb when the car is stationary- obviously not a problem if

a) you keep the car indoors
b) you don't plan on ever parking up outside when it might rain
c) you don't ever go round the M25....

i will park it up outside when it may rain, and i will drive round the m25 as im going to get it mapped and thats part of my route, ohh well ive had it

Oh well Lets hope for glorious M25 weather then (though last time I got stuck in the Locost on the M25 I got terrible sunburn so maybe not!!)....

The K+N type filters are oiled so they resist water reasonably well.

Then again if you're worried just take an ice-cream box (or other suitable plastic container) and when you park up stick it over the top of the filter. Should do the trick as long as someone doesn't nick it or it blows off.... Certainly locost until that happens though!!! (as long as you like ice cream).

just looking on the pipercross website they list an mx filter for offroad use, this may help my cause, ill ring them, its just i quite like using it in the rain etc....

ever fancied learning a bit of fibreglassing?

buy a simple scoop thing, and stick it on, should stop direct falling rain mostly
