pinto cam belt tension

How did you set you cam belt tension on a pinto, use any gauge or just half inch of movement as some mention?
Also is it ok not to use the spring as it was not on my old engine.

cheers

Not a half inch of belt movement --- the standard test is if you can give it a half twist of belt movement on the longest run.

Get hold of the belt with finger and thumb on it edges, on the longest run and trist it. Should get 90' turn (without all the force you can muster).

As bt said.

you should be able to do half a twist on the longest part of the belt.

Thanks, sorted.

Just to clarify , you should be able to turn the belt 1/4 of a twist = 90 degrees
