What V8 though ?

I'll assume you mean a Rover.

A fit one (quite a rare beast, it seems) through 4/1 headers on seperate exhausts and no balance pipe with a Holley carb is a fine sounding thing.
A knackered one with the wrong exhaust can have you wondering what's the point.

Seriously, the finest sounding Rover I ever heard was in an old Dutton. I heard one in a TVR Griffith last week and I wouldn't have given two bob for it.

In a 7 type car a V8 never seems right to me. A nicely tuned rev happy 4 pot always seems right.

I always think the little 4AGE motor looks spot on in a 7 engine bay.

Sorry yes a
rover 3.5 in a stylus type
with 180 bhp

Now a Stylus/Fury/Phoenix is a different matter. A V6/V8 seems much more "right" in that style of car (IMHO)

180bhp duratec will give 200 as will red top rev higher and be lighter dont need to do the maths. Make a car lighter make it faster.

V8 for sound and grunt fit em in cobras and Capris I reckon

Im a bit bias,
Yes the viento is a big car but thats why i chose it! I love the soundtrack. Its an ex tom walkinshaw 4 litre twin plenum, i`ve yet to put it on a rolling road but the works sd1 vitesses were capable of 290 bhp!

DONT ask about the mpg!!

1.- Yep 150mph is fast enough
2.- Yep pulls from1200RPM in top
3.- Yep absolutely fantastic even at a lowly 6500rpm
4.- Better than an XE on 45's
5.- To get attention it needs do no more than idle at 600 RPM

Dont bother with a 3.5 - 3.9's are easier to come by and no more expensive.

but becasuethe 3.9s are bored out, don't they suffer from slipped liners? or am I getting confused with the even larger capacity ones?

Hi

What are we talking about in terms of comparison. What sort of usage for the car. There's not many chassis that will Handel a V8 properly the likes of DAX have got it right but the smaller lighter chassis like Strikers Fury's Phoenix's are just not suitable.

Even when you have the V8 in a proper chassis if you are looking at outright performance then take a look at the Kit car race championship where the works DAX and MNR compete and alo compare to the SR&GT race championship which has the likes of Cheng Lim competing with a 700 Bhp cobra ( no expense spared ) there lap times are only on a par with the 160BHP zetec and 200 Bhp 16 valve 1600 engined cars around the same circuit on the same day.

Here's a link to some Brands hatch results where the SR&GT qualified with the Kitcars in the same session. LINK

You ll not beat the noise of a good V8 though thats for sure. So if it's just for cruising then go for it.

Chers Matt

The slipped liner issue is a later 4.6 and 4.0L engines more so the 4.0L the 3.9 (same capacity by the way) does not really suffer this malady
