a little while ago my misses car spat out a load of wigs. at first we thought it was a practical joke, and someone had rammed a load of wigs and fake
hair extensions up the exhaust of her 1.3 KA. but then someone said they had found the same come out of their exhaust when the cat died. a further
observer thought it was out of the silencer. on fleabay i can find a new cat which comes welded onto a manifold for about 90£.
Is it worth worrying about till MOT time, in Dec? do these things die in stages or will it be fecked completely, tbh doesn't sound overly loud so
i'm sure theres plenty of fake hair left inside... outside condition of the pipes looks ok, and the middle (& tail?)section was replaced not
too long ago...
Once you achieve full wig removal, you will get a headache.. Then you know you need a new one

It's nothing to do with the cat, the hair you see coming out is from the absorptive silencer, which is usually the first silencer of a two box system. The inner perforated tube rots through and the exhaust gasses blow the wadding through the exhaust and out of the tail pipe. This is quite a common problem.

You will know if the cat is dead when they fail you on the MOT for emissions.

aha! excellent if this is true, i shall tell the misses to forget it. Now the person who told me it was the cat said "the garage told me it was the cat" so he got stung!!!
great, i was almost booking it in for an emissions test to see if the cat needed replacing b4 the mot.
I wouldn’t bother doing any thing right now as if the noise isn’t too bad. The wading will blow itself out till it’s no longer affected by the gas
flow. Usually it’s the middle silencer that is a straight through one with the wading and the rear silencer is a baffled box with none, though it does
vary. The car should still be perfectly fine to go through an MOT.

It was a scam at a local tyre fitters our way.
You go in for a back box or a mid section and they tell you you must have a new cat before it can be driven or it will damage the engine.
The firm is target driven so one cat is the same sale to them as four cheap tyres. The fitters where then selling the old cats out the back door for
cash in hand weekend money.
I sent the wifes car up for a mid section as I couldnt be bothered to weld it. They cut the old exhaust of the car and refused to refit the new one
with out a new cat.
They even cut the cat of with out asking .
The car past its mot for three years after.
I wont be going there again

Our car failed emissions last year and when I took the front pipe with the cat off the car it was completely hollow, no evidence of anything inside it at all. I fitted a replacement £90 front cat pipe and it passed straight away and again this year.
What was the poor pussy doing up there
in the first place
