Just used up my first full tank. Its 6 gallon and i got 70 miles out of it!
I must need my R1 carbs resetting. I should be getting more than that out of a pinto shouldnt i?
Ouch... whack a pair of 45s on it!
I get 20 - 22
Thats about what i get with a 2.2 in the kit car.
recon its just running to rich, when i first fitted my zx6 carbs on my CVH it was terible, just by getting the mixture right chanding jets from 165 to 150's improved fuel consumption considderably, what are the plugs looking like?
ooh 12 mpg that would be lovely
on a nice run i get arounf 7-8
on a blat i get 3-4 mpg
its all part of the fun tho
i take it you was not pushing it hard the whole 70 miles?
because i can get low mpg if i try in my car.

make sure you have the carbs balanced and the fuel pressure correct,
when i bolted mine on they were unbalanced and fuel pressure was about 6psi and i got about 15 mpg, then i set them put properly with the right fuel
pressure (3.5 psi) and balanced and i got about 26-28mpg, thats on a 2.1 pinto
I can get the R1 (Bike) down to 15mpg giving it some, and its right on the money tuning wise.

25 plus on a pair of 40's 1.8 zetec, sounds like you may be loosing juice into the oil ie pat the rings. have yo a pressure regulator on ??
I think you should be getting at least 25
I used to get about 2-3 mpg on hill climbs so I don't think your figure is too bad but it depends on how you were driving it.
Maybe with careful driving and if the carbs are well set up you could get 30?
I must say I get better mpg out of my 5 litre V8 340BHP TVR,than I did out of my 1 litre bec's,I average 24mpg with some spirited driving in the
TVR,around 18 mpg was my average in the old bec's.But if your only getting 12mpg out of a old pinto, you must be running a little rich
i get 30+ out of the indy on a run
Out of those 70 miles i spent very little time on full throttle as it was the first run for the completed car. I was worried that stuff would fall off
it as i'd built it
You move the circlip on the diaphragm needles up and down to change the mix dont you? I'm taking it that the 1.8mm jets fitted by Bogg Brothers
are correct?
I had the rebuilt engine compression tested and all was fine.
Beware of bike carbs that over fuel, I trashed a 2.1 Pinto, rings and bearings by bore washing the engine in a few hundred miles.
Second dog engine is suffering already after a couple of hundred.
my zetec does about 25-30 if i dont rag it with zx9r carbs on it.
I thrashed it to and from yarmouth a couple of weeks ago and got about 17 mpg.
Last time I got 12mpg one of the fuel hoses was leaking, better make sure all the petrol's getting into the cylinders too
