
Hi,
got the mrs a sprolet carrier the other month, a 2005 Renault grand scenic, which over the last few weeks has got a " check emissions"
warning message. This is not always on, sometimes the car starts without the warning message appearing and when that is the case the car feels
quicker. When the warning message is on I swear there is quiet hiss or whislte sound from then engine as I rev it through the gears.
Now I have an idea it might be the egr valve full of carbon, sticking open and so letting all the eshaist gases into the engine. But this is only fro
google searching the problem. It also seems to stall occasionally, but that is not often or consistent.
Anyone know where I might find afformentioned valve in the car and how easy it is to clean out?
A gummed up EGR valave does sound favourite - and more likely the more i read of your post!
Remove, clean and make sure to give it a good trashing every now and then...
As for location? Normally a disc-shaped thingy strapped onto the exhaust manifold (or maybe on the head itself); sometimes attached with a big of
corrugated stainless tube and probably has a vacuum line or solenoid on it somewhere..
Had this problem on my Renault as shown in the avatar - It was an injector fault - Renaults are notorious for this fault usually injectors.
Another issue with them is the individual Pencil coils on the plugs again these are sh*t and often fail.
Renault know all about these issues but don't seem to do anything about it - Having said that never had any other problems on 50k of hard driving
Rough Idling and 'bucking' on acceleration are symptoms of stuck open EGR valve.

It could be the EGR sticking or it could be a faulty position sensor on the valve either way replace and change the engine oil but also get the
fault codes read.
Renault Dci engines are notorious for gunge --- these engine absolutely must be run on fully synthetic oil and if you are wise change it every
5,000 miles otherwise the chances of the engine living much beyond the 60,000 mile mark tend to be short.

The EGR valve will be attached to the inlet on the right hand side of the head. 3 x m10 bolts. Dont forget to recover the gasket and also make sure
the head of the "valve" hasn't boken off and is sitting in the hole.
If all is intact, use a screwdriver to break the wall of crud that will have built up behind the valve.
Clean the valve in brake cleaner and make sure it is seated, with no daylight showing around the seat. All should be ok for a few thousand miles
then.
