The new Honda Vfr 1200 is debuting in to the European Market. What to you think about this engine for a future locost kit-car?

Two extreme new abilities from this new engine are:

1. the dual clutch gear box like the DSG (VW);
2. The possibility the deactivate 2 or even 3 cylinders--> VFR1200Deactivate

The 2 or 3 cylinder deactivation is helpful to those countries where registration are based on g/Km of CO2.

the engine weights a tonne..... the electrical side of it would be fun too!

Of course, the bike weighs more than a busa if I remember with the engine being the main source of weight.

I guess it'd be interesting to see how good it is really, the older vfr engines are cheap as they never really go wrong, don't think it'll be the case with these though.

Sounds very complicated, and the first thing you'd do would be to turn all the cylinders on all the time!

Any idea on power? I know the earlier (2003) 1300 models were about 130bhp.

I'd like to see a BMW 1300s in a car. 175bhp and dry-sumped as standard. They don't seem to come up much on e-bay though!

Before registration you can configure how many cylinder are on. For emissions, the best solution is the lock the throttle grip opening degree to 19º, so it run only with 2 cylinder.
